Campaigning for the April 8 Santa Clarita City Council election is in full swing and the five candidates still have at least two debates to go.

The Santa Clarita Community Coalition is planning a public forum from 7 to 9 p.m. in Canyon Country on Wednesday and Bob Kellar, Diane Trautman, Laurie Ender, Bob Spierer and Maria Gutzeit have all agreed to participate.

Candidates will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and each candidate will participate in three rounds of questions.

The forum will be the fourth City Council candidate debate since the fall.

The public forum will be held at the George A. Caravalho Activities Center Banquet Room located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.

On Feb. 27, the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center and SCVTV are planning a debate to be held at the senior center from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

All five participants have indicated they will attend, according to Brad Berens, executive director of the center. Questions will be pulled from the audience, he said.

"There has been a number of issues raised this year of great concern to the senior community and I think it's important that we get the candidates' feelings on the needs of our seniors in this community as part of their commitment to serve on the City Council," Berens said.

The senior center is located at 22900 Market Street in Newhall.
