Lexus Jazz and Blues Series

The sounds of live jazz and blues bands once again fill Town Center Drive in Valencia during the 10th annual Lexus of Valencia Jazz & Blues Concert Series. 7-9:30 p.m. on Town Center Drive adjacent to the Hyatt Valencia. No pets or outside food or beverages are allowed. Free. A “Ghost Hunting Party” will be held Saturday, Aug. 30 at the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society. Two paranormal researchers will lead ghost hunting sessions in three buildings a the SCVHS’s Heritage Junction. The event will also include a discussion about ghost hunting procedures and equipment, catered dinner, a midnight snack, sleepover in Saugus Train Station’s freight room, continental breakfast and a DVD of evidence captured. The Foundation for Children’s Dental Health is celebrating its 15th birthday by hosting a Quinceanera on Sept. 13 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the home of Mayor Bob Kellar. The evening includes live salsa music, dancing, and food. Ticket prices are $100. Proceeds benefit children suffering from a lack of dental care.

Sept. 13-14
Circle of Hope will host the fifth annual theatrical tea from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 13-14. Tickets $50 each, and include musical theater, live performances, and a formal English tea in a garden setting.  Circle of Hope is dedicated to financially assisting individuals with breast cancer in the Santa Clarita Valley. Back to School Shopping
The Assistance League of Santa Clarita is featuring “Back to School” shopping through Aug. 30 at their Take Two Resale shop. YMCA Community Campfire
On Friday at 7 p.m., the Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA will be hosting their annual Y-Guides Community Campfire at the YMCA Summit Park at 26147 McBean Parkway The event is free to the public. The 2008 Community Campfire will consist of traditional campfire songs, skits and family building activities. Bring your own blanket or lawn chairs. For more information call (661) 253-3593 ext. 7352.

Ghost Hunting Party at SCVHS
The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society and the American Paranormal Research Association will host a ghost hunting part at Heritage Junction Park on Aug. 30. Participants will enjoy a discussion about ghost hunting equipment and procedures, a catered dinner, a ghost-hunting session in three buildings at Heritage Junction, a sleepover in Saugus Train Station’s freight room, and more. Castaic Lake Programs
The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting two new programs at Castaic Lake Recreation Area. For Movies at the Lake, the community is invited to bring snacks, a comfortable chair or blanket and enjoy a family movie in Paradise Cove on the lagoon. Vehicle parking is $11 but the movie is free. Movies are scheduled for Sept. 5 and Oct. 3. A Summer Campfire Talk Series will be held  Saturdays at the new campground amphitheater, on the east side of the lagoon, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.. History of the Ridge Route

The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society will present a lecture 2 p.m. Sept. 6 on the History of the Ridge Route. Harrison Scott, executive director of the Ridge Route Preservation Organization and author of the recently published book “ Lost Hotels on California’s Historic Ridge Route “, will deliver a talk at the historic Saugus Train Station at Heritage Junction within William S. COC Computer Classes
College of the Canyons is offering a series of free one-day computer classes covering several different topics.
