Parents at Sulphur Springs Elementary School must now stop at the administrative office and get a visitor’s pass if they want to walk their child to class.

Some parents were upset by the confusion Tuesday morning, which involved an assistant principal at the school telling some of them that they could not get a visitor’s pass and must drop children off at the curb or gate.

"My son is in second grade, and I have always walked with him as far as his classroom door, and now they are saying that I have to drop him off at the gate," said Trisha Hadsell of Canyon Country. Sulphur Springs Principal Judy Veale set the record straight for The Signal Tuesday afternoon, and said that there had been a "miscommunication."

"Parents have to check into the office and get a visitor’s pass," Veale said. "It’s for their safety and for the safety of the child." Hadsell was relieved to hear that she could continue to walk her son Tyler, 6, to his classroom.

"I will go tomorrow and get a visitor’s pass. I have no problem doing that every day," Hadsell said.

There reportedly was no confusion over access at any other schools in the Sulphur Springs School District.
