Some facts about hospital expansion

After reading Tim Myers' article about G&L Realty's contribution to Laura Ender's campaign, I could only wonder about his motivation for writing such a biased opinion. He talks about assuming facts not in evidence but never mentions any of the facts that are in evidence.

Fact: G&L Realty contributed $30,000 to get a candidate favorable to their position to build three medical office buildings on nonprofit land.

Fact: Hospital expansion in the form of guaranteed operating rooms or additional beds is incumbent upon medical office buildings, not the other way around.

Fact: Frank Ferry contributed to Laurie Ender's campaign in violation of campaign laws.

Fact: From the very beginning, the "master plan for HMNMH" was ramrodded through the Planning Commission and guaranteed a "slam dunk" by city staff, in spite of no approved development agreement.

Fact: Some of the proposed buildings are on HMNMH land, which is property-tax-exempt.

Fact: The hospital could expand without the benefit of medical office buildings on campus.

Fact: There are sufficient medical office buildings within a two-mile radius to more than accommodate "Centers of Excellence."

So what is his motivation for writing such an article? He managed to insinuate blame for the mortgage crisis on David Gauny and proposed that an unsubstantiated alternative theory led to O.J.'s acquittal.

But nowhere does he even talk about the issue at hand. Does Santa Clarita need to give G&L Realty a 15- or 25-year entitlement to build medical office buildings on nonprofit land?

The spotlight that David Gauny and his group have shined on the situation should be welcomed and not demeaned. When there are continuous indications of smoke even if you don't have "evidence" of a fire, it is prudent to sound an alarm.

The old adage "follow the money" always seems to lead to the reasons behind political decisions. What does Tim Myers of Landscape Development Inc. have to gain? Perhaps the contract for the G&L expansion project?

Or is it for the Laurene Weste "healing garden" proposed for the new HMNMH expansion?
Probably none of the above, but it makes me wonder.
