The annual Crop Walk fundraiser, sponsored by the SCV Interfaith Council, is set for Sept. 1 and will raise money for the less fortunate living in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The walk, which is in its 11th year, will bring local representatives from the Jewish, Episcopal, Methodist, Lutheran and LDS faith communities, among others, according to Pastor George McLeary, president of the Interfaith Council and leader of The Church of Hope ELCA in Canyon Country.

The event will take place from St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newhall. Registration will be at 8:30 a.m. with the walk starting a half hour later.

McLeary said the main goal of the walk is to raise awareness and funds for the "desperately homeless and hungry people around the world."

Locally, McLeary said the need for food pantries is "growing exponentially." As a result, the walk will benefit the SCV Food Pantry, The Church of Hope's pantry and the Santa Clarita Valley Winter Emergency Shelter.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match up to $2,500 of what the walk raises.

With that, the pastor hopes $20,000 will be raised during this year's Labor Day walk.

During the past 11 years, McLeary said Crop Walk has raised $120,000.
