A $2,500 grant from the Weyerhauser Company Foundation will fund the Hart district's Honor Band Concert in March and the Santa Clarita Choral Festival in April.

"This is the fourth year that the Weyerhauser Company Foundation has presented the Hart district with a $2,500 grant, and we use this to help offset some of the costs of putting on our district-wide choral festival and honor band event," said Vicki Engbrecht, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the William S. Hart Union High School District.

Pardee Homes has recommended the Hart district music programs for the grant for the past several years to help cover the costs of these performances.

"Some of the things that we're able to provide thanks to this grant would be guest conductors, extra sheet music and it also supports the selection of the students for these two district-wide honor groups," Engbrecht said.

The Honor Band Concert will take place 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. March 1 at the Hart High School Auditorium in Newhall. The Santa Clarita Choral Festival is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 29 at a location to be announced.

Those district-wide performances, as well as theater and chalk art festivals, also receive support from a block grant for the arts from the state of California.
