Bicycle patrols from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station netted 14 arrests Friday night in an effort to curb crimes typically seen as public nuisances, according to a sheriff's station news release.

Among the arrests made were eight teenagers apprehended for underage drinking and curfew violation.

The teens were apprehended on the paseo near Riversbridge Way in Valencia. Previous complaints from residents in the area resulted in no arrests as deputies were unable to catch the teens.

The teens violated curfew by being on the paseo after 10 p.m.

The bicycle patrols aren't an effort by deputies to get in shape, but a response to reports of drinking, drug use, graffiti, littering and other public nuisance crimes, according to sheriff station report.

The Community Intervention Team conducted the patrol with an eye on curbing those types of crimes, the report said.

Included in the Friday night arrests was John Pacheco, 51, who was nabbed with an open container on McBean Parkway between Arroyo Parkway and Del Monte Drive by the deputies on bicycles.

Deputies discovered that Pacheco was a parolee at large and arrested him on an existing warrant. He was also charged with an open container of alcohol in public, according to the release.
