Perfect skin balance is easy to achieve if you know how and what to do. When it comes to winter and cold temperatures, it’s a battle between the environment, heaters in our homes and workplace, and lifestyle habits that we don’t know are keeping us dry.

So what’s it all about? Moisture, moisture, moisture. Professional-grade skincare products for daily use at home are a must for cumulative improvements and maintaining long-term anti-aging results.

We feed our bodies daily, and our skin needs help from the outside, too.

The fact is that our faces, neck, décolleté and hands are exposed to the environment and sun most of our lives. That is why the skin on the rest of our body is in much better shape as we mature. The good news is that it is never too late to get the beautiful skin you desire. The body replaces every cell every seven years, which includes the skin, so now is the time to get started.

* Daily moisturizers are your daily defense, a must-have. An appropriate night cream will only enhance results if it’s in your budget. If not, don’t fret. Use your day formula until you can get it. It’s the consistency of using moisturizer that will reap big benefits right away and in the long run.

* For daily use, alpha hydroxy products, specifically with lactic acid for normal to dry skin, work well to remove dead skin-cell layers so that there is a maximum penetration of topical serums, as well as for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.

I recommend glycolic acid products for acne and blemish-prone skin. Vitamin C serums and treatments relieve a multitude of skin stressors, too.

* Hydrating moisture masques let your skin drink in moisture from the outside-in and are great for at-home care. Use a hydrating serum with humectants under your moisturizer to hold and draw moisture for prolonged periods.

* Moisture mists with high concentrations of antioxidants protect and fight free radicals while giving your skin a moisture bath during the day.

* I recommend tepid or warm water to cleanse your face. Hot water is too harsh and drying. Use cooler temperatures for acne and blemish prone skin, which requires cooling and calming effects for better control.

* Adequate personal consumption of quality water is probably the single most important thing you can do for your skin and your health. Our bodies are more than 70-percent water, so that pretty much sums it up. We need it, and our skin craves it. Water is the inside-out that helps our skin gain the beautiful healthy glow we all dream about.

* Now, let’s talk caffeine. I know, you have to have it ... just have less of it. It’s going to make a huge difference in the function and hydration of your body and skin. (Did you know that iced tea is actually more dehydrating than coffee, too?)

* Central heating that keeps the air warm can strip your surface quite a bit. So, if you can stay warm without overheating your home and office, your skin will thank you.

* When it comes to bathing, I suggest warm, not hot, showers for no more than five to seven minutes because hot baths will dry out your skin considerably. If you are dry, try it. Your skin will feel a lot more comfortable.

Lastly, invest in yourself in every way. The dividends are endless. You are the most valuable possession you have. Taking the best care of yourself insures the best you have to offer in every aspect of your life.
