Fire shuts down I-5

Roughly 20 acres were scorched Saturday when a brush fire broke out about three miles north of Castaic, a fire official said.

At around 3:41 p.m., firefighters responded to three small fires burning along Interstate 5, said Supervisor Andre Gougis with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

As the blaze consumed more grass and brush, county and U.S. Forest Service firefighters responded on the ground as two CL 215 Canadian SuperScooper planes and multiple helicopters attacked from above.

There were no reported injuries or any damage to structures, Gougis said.

Officials temporarily closed lanes of traffic on the northbound side of I-5 near Templin Highway.

By 7:30 p.m., the fire was fully contained. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, Gougis said.
