With Valentine's Day coming on a Monday this year, you might be especially tardy in making your romantic plans. Do you go out Monday night? Do you go out Saturday night and stay in Monday night?

Whatever the excuse, if you find yourself on this Friday before Valentine's Day with nothing yet planned, we've got some suggestions.

But you might want to get on the phone right away - before your fellow procrastinators do. And if all else fails, there are things you can do right at home to fan the romantic flames.

Singing Valentines
The Santa Clarita Valley's own Men of Harmony will be at it again this Valentine's Day. They say "Nothing tells someone you love them like a singing Valentine," and the Men of Harmony Barbershop Quartets will serenade your sweetheart at home, at work or anywhere you choose in the Santa Clarita Valley. Your singing gift includes a two-love-song serenade, a Valentine's Day card with your personalized greeting and a flower gift.

Valentine serenades will be available Sunday, Feb. 13 and Valentine's Day, Monday Feb. 14. Regular delivery anywhere in the SCV between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. costs $45 and is usually within two hours of your requested time.

Premier "straight from the heart" delivery will be within 15 minutes of your selected target time at a cost of $55.

F&W Railway Love Train

Monday, Feb. 14 the F&W will host its Valentine's Day Love Train, a spoof of "The Love Boat." Titled "Rails to Romance," the train ride is from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The $89 per person ticket (over age 18 only) includes the three-hour train ride, a three-course dinner and a comedy-style murder mystery play.

Romance at Rancho Camulos
Saturday or Sunday, bring your special someone to Rancho Camulos Museum National Historic Landmark to experience "Romance at the Rancho." Docent-led tours will focus on the love stories of couples associated with Camulos. Bring a picnic and blanket and spend some quality time with each other enjoying the beautiful setting. On Saturday, the dinner begins at 7 p.m. and the comedy show, featuring James P. Connelly and Karen Rontowski, begins at 9 p.m. On Monday, dinner is at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. with Connelly and Joanie Fagan.

Reservations for four or more receive a complimentary fondue of their choice (traditional cheese, brie and basil, beer and cheddar, or roasted pepper and goat cheese). Chef Adam Bokal has prepared a special four-course menu designed specifically for couples - and flowers, champagne and other romantic details can be arranged upon request.

On Valentine's Day, you have two romantic choices at New Moon. First, for those customers wishing to come in and have dinner, a complimentary glass of champagne will be offered to each adult. Second, for those who will be dining at home Monday night, New Moon is offering a special Sweetheart Dinner Takeout. The dinner for two is $35, excluding tax and gratuity, and includes your choice, from the regular menu, of one appetizer, one full sized salad, two entrees (excluding duck) and a Petite Hearts Dessert for two, which is a raspberry mousse with heart-shaped white chocolate covering. It is advised you pre-order the dessert.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, the Oaks Grille will offer a special four-course Valentine's Day dinner for $69 per person. Served from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the dinner will include an appetizer of assorted American farmhouse and European cheeses; endive and apple salad with fennel and pomegranate glaze; choice of five entrees; and dessert of chocolate lava cake. The entrée choices include pan-seared sea bass; one-half an organic, oven-roasted, free range chicken; pecan crusted, stuffed pork loin; duo of filet mignon and short ribs; and deconstructed lasagna for vegetarians. Beverages will be available including, at extra charge, wine parings and a special Valentine's Day martini. A harpist will provide musical entertainment.

After 5 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights, Salt Creek Grill will offer a special Valentine's Day menu in addition to the regular menu. With multiple choices, the special dinner prices range from $9.95 for a salad to $34.95 for New York steak and crab cake (per person). Friday and Saturday nights singer Jay Bolan will perform from 9 p.m. to midnight. Monday night pianist John Pramic will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

From Friday, Feb. 11 through Monday, Feb. 14 (5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.) the Vines will be offering a special four-course dinner at $59 per person. (The regular dinner menu selections will be available as well.) The special menu includes your starter choice of heart-shaped crab cake, tuna tartare, lobster bisque or Caesar salad. The intermezzo is cherryberry sorbet. Entrée choices include petite filet and lobster tail, grilled wild salmon, free range chicken breast, seafood risotto or garganelli pasta. The sweet finale is a decadent chocolate granache heart. Diners receive a complimentary glass of champagne as well.
