Today through Feb. 23, College of the Canyons Associated Student Government will host Keep Education Alive, a week-long advocacy event that intends on raising awareness of the affects of California's educational budget cuts.

The event will be held on both the Valencia (Student Center) and Canyon Country (Cougar Way) campus from 10 a.m. to  2 p.m.daily.

Throughout the week, COCs Associated Student Government will wear black t-shirts and wristbands to symbolize the death of education.

Students who wish to participate in the event will also be given a wristband to wear for an opportunity to win raffle prizes or a COC textbook scholarship.

Food and entertainment will also be present at the event.

With Keep Education Alive, students will have an opportunity to speak out about their grievances with the California budget cuts by signing petitions and writing letters to local and state politicians. The Associated Student Government wishes to obtain at least 7,000 signatures to send to legislators in Sacramento.

Keep Education Alive hopes to bring together students, staff and faculty for a cause that will bring positive change not only the College of the Canyons, but also to the California education system as a whole.
