Here's what's happening

While it seems the Southern California St. Patrick's Day celebrations are leaning toward the weekend before the holiday, you can still get your corned beef and cabbage and your green beer next Thursday at several local venues. And those weekend events will bring you everything from hard partying to healthy exercise. Here's what we know:

Saturday, March 12

Knights of Columbus St. Patrick's Day Race

Starting at 9 a.m., the Knights of Columbus host their 31st St. Patrick's Day Race. The 5K will be held at Central Park this year, at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus. Race day registration is $25; $30 with race T-shirt. Entry fee reduced for youths under 17.

At 6 p.m. the Knights of Columbus will host their 35th St. Patrick's Day Celebration, with a dinner of corned beef and cabbage, Irish potatoes and carrots, home-baked Irish soda bread and desserts. Entertaining at dinner are step dancers, Irish musicians and singers. Dancing and Irish music follow. Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children 12 and under.

From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., drinking, dancing, food, live bands. Purchase all-inclusive tickets at the website only - $100. There will be only 500 tickets sold. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Arrive early to avoid lines.

South Bay St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival
The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in Hermosa Beach begins at 11 a.m. at intersection of Pier and Valley Drive, then moves west to Hermosa Avenue then South on Hermosa to 8th Street. The festival will be held at Pier Plaza. The events are free. Use metered street parking and obey posted signs.

Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13

The event includes carnival rides, historic re-enactors, several stages of Irish music from rock to traditional, dance performances and social dancing, casual and fine dining, Irish and other Celtic product vendors, a petting zoo, sheep herding demonstrations and Highland-style games. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Adults $18, seniors 55+ and students with ID $16, two-day pass $28, children 11 and under are free. Additional fee for parking.

An Irish theatrical musical event led by Irish composer/conductor Eímear Noone. Celebrity guest performers include actors Pierce Brosnon and Roma Downey, lyric soprano Celine; harpist Gayle Levant, former Paris Opera Baritone Sam McElroy and Irish actress and television host, Caroline Morahan. Starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $38 to $88

Head over to Santa Clarita's first "Certified Green Restaurant" for live Irish music from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on St. Patrick's Day. The menu will include corned beef and cabbage, Irish stew, bar menu and kids' menu. Guinness on tap, green beer and featured drinks. No reservations required, families welcome. No cover charge.
