Authorities arrested a wanted parolee who was a suspect in an allegedly gang-related Fourth of July assault Thursday, after an hours-long standoff at the man’s Val Verde home.

Detectives searched for Arturo Jimenez, 36, at his home on the 29000 block of Hunstock Street at about 10 a.m. It wasn’t immediately clear when Jimenez barricaded himself inside his house, said Sgt. Darren Harris of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

A special weapons team from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Special Enforcement Detail gathered a few blocks west of Jimenez’s home at Val Verde Park after authorities surrounded his house. The special-enforcement detail responds to between 150 and 200 calls a year to handle high-risk or barricaded suspects.

Jimenez was apprehended at 4:15 p.m., after a dog from the department’s K-9 unit found Jimenez in the house, Harris said. Jimenez was being examined at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital before being booked. It wasn’t clear if the dog bit Jimenez when he was apprehended, Harris said.

Several people couldn’t go home during the standoff.

California Highway Patrol cruisers blocked access to Hunstock Street, Cromwell Avenue and Silver Street.
More than a dozen people tried to sneak a peak of the barricaded man while standing next to their parked cars along Del Valle Road.

Law enforcement had searched for Jimenez for months.

Sheriff’s officials believe Jimenez was one of two suspects who allegedly pointed a gun and threatened a rival gang member on the 29000 block of Val Verde Road. Ricardo Cardenas, 31, of Canyon Country, has already been arrested in connection with the case.

“We’ve been trying to get him into custody for a while,” Harris said. “We finally got him.”
