For the fifth year, members of the Posner family of Saugus and friends will join thousands of Santa Clarita Valley locals and other Southern California residents to participate in "Walk MS" fundraisers to help beat multiple sclerosis.
Karla Posner, 49, and one of her four children, Samantha, 19, both have MS, as it's more commonly known. It's a potentially crippling disease that attacks the central nervous system causing numbness and pain, but can be controlled with medication.
Posner's older sister and one of her sisters-in-law also battle MS.
Calling their team "MS Fits," the Posner posse participated in the Walk MS 2011 Pasadena event Sunday, April 3 and are set to encore at the Antelope Valley event at the Lancaster Marketplace on Saturday, April 30 -- just two of many fundraisers organized around the country this spring by the nonprofit National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The MS Fits team also arranged several pre-walk fundraisers at local restaurants.
On Thursday, April 14, Jersey Mike's locations in Santa Clarita donated 15 percent of proceeds to Walk MS 2011 when a customer presented a flier.
On Saturday, April 30, Menchie's frozen yogurt at 26865 Sierra Highway in Canyon Country will contribute 15 percent of purchases to Walk MS 2011.
Registration for the April 30 walk in Lancaster will begin at 7:45 a.m., with opening ceremonies kicking off at 9:45 a.m. and the official start set for 10 a.m.

The day is fun for the whole family as participants can enjoy a beautiful 5K walk, roll or stroll with entertainment on the route. At the finish, walkers get to party together at a festival with food, music, jugglers, face painters, team booths and giveaways.
