Richard P. Gentile
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Richard P. Gentile, a 2003 graduate of Bowman High School in Santa Clarita, recently completed Naval Nuclear Power Training Pipeline.

During the course with Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, N.Y, Gentile received instruction about nuclear theory, chemistry, physics, reactor operations, safety and security. Upon completion of the course, Gentile qualified as a Naval nuclear operator.

Gentile joined the Navy in March 2008.

Ryan J. Beaman
Marine Corps Pfc. Ryan J. Beaman, son of Margaret and Gary Beaman of Newhall, recently was selected as the distinguished graduate from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N. C.

During the five-week course, Beaman received instruction in the fundamentals of engineering support for combat units, including the procedures for building and repairing bridges, roads and field fortifications. Beaman also learned the art of demolition, land mine warfare and camouflage techniques.

Beaman is a 2006 graduate of William S. Hart High School in Newhall, and joined the Marine Corps in July 2009.

McMullen Poller
Navy Seaman Apprentice Charles A. McMullen Poller, son of Teri L. McMullen of Canyon Country, and Robert E. Poller, of Trail, Ore., was recently promoted to his current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

McMullen Poller received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle. Training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. “Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Its distinctly “Navy” flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor.     

McMullen Poller is a 2009 graduate of West Ranch High School in Stevenson Ranch.

Jaclyn M. Avila

Army Pvt. Jaclyn M. Avila has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.

She is the daughter of Dalia Ordaz of Fresno, and Fabian Trebizo of Saugus. Avila graduated in 2009 from Fresno High School.
