The city of Santa Clarita, in partnership with the city of Palmdale, the SCV Chamber of Commerce and the SCV Economic Development Corporation, will host a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) workshop to help businesses that import/export, learn how to utilize federal incentives.

The free informational workshop will take place on the first floor of City Hall in the Century Room on Thursday, April 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

"If you're a Santa Clarita business that does any type of foreign trade or purchase, or would like to, the Foreign Trade Zone Workshop will provide invaluable information for your business," said Mayor Marsha McLean.

"The free workshop will provide companies with information on how to defer, reduce, or eliminate U.S. Customs duties, fees and certain taxes."

The Foreign Trade Zone workshop will show local businesses how they can benefit from the FTZ program in regard to expenses associated with international business and trade. The workshop will also feature a presentation by David Harlow of ITC Diligence, Inc, a Foreign Trade Zone consulting firm.

Foreign Trade Zones are designed to provide deferments, reductions or eliminations of Customs duties, fees and certain taxes. A Foreign Trade Zone is an area located physically in the U.S. but considered outside the purview of U.S. Customs. Although Foreign Trade Zone Number 191 is based in Palmdale, businesses in Santa Clarita can utilize the benefits of this Foreign Trade Zone.

The city of Santa Clarita City Hall is located at 23920 Valencia Blvd., Valencia 91355.
