Crime Watch: Suspicious activity from April 2-12, 2011

Editor’s note: This week, The Signal reintroduces Crime Watch, a feature listing crimes and other suspicious activity that Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies and detectives have responded to in recent days. Crime Watch will keep our readers informed about such events on a weekly basis. Information is obtained from the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

April 1
Between 6 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Grape Lily Circle, Newhall. A man reported that his $3,500 street bicycle was stolen from an unlocked, detached garage near his home.

Between 9 p.m. and 11 a.m. 27100 block of Silver Oak Lane, Santa Clarita. Three bottles of prescription medication were reported stolen from inside an unlocked parked car.

April 2

Between 9 and 11:45 a.m. 23121 Coltrane Ave., Newhall. A Saugus man reported that his Remington Model 12-gauge shotgun was stolen from the parking lot of the Oak Tree Gun Club. The man accidentally left his shotgun in the parking lot and left the gun club. When he returned, the shotgun was gone.

Between 12:20 and 6 p.m., Sandy Drive, Canyon Country. Speakers and subwoofers worth $620 were stolen from a locked car parked in front of the victim’s home.

3 p.m. Lost Canyon Road at Via Princessa; Lost Canyon Road and Wren Drive, Canyon Country. Spray-painted graffiti was found sprawled on two stone walls and two electrical boxes at both intersections.    

Between 8 and 8:30 p.m. 28000 block of Constellation Road, Valencia. A city bus driver’s backpack was stolen from inside a parked bus at the Santa Clarita Transit Center.

Between March 31 and April 2. Ann Circle, Canyon Country. A man reported that several tools and metal pipes worth $835 were stolen from his pickup truck on the street near his home.

April 3

7:05 p.m. 22400 block of Pamplico Drive, Santa Clarita. A 20-year-old man was cited for parking in a handicapped parking spot and using a handicapped placard registered to somebody else.

April 4
Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. 28211 Newhall Ranch Road, Valencia. A woman’s purse and wallet were stolen from underneath the driver’s seat of her locked car in the LA Fitness lot.

April 5
8:10 a.m. 18571 Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country. A 21-year-old Agua Dulce man was caught trying to steal a bottle of rum from an Albertsons supermarket.

Between 9 p.m. and 10:15 a.m. Jakes Way east of Sierra Highway, Canyon Country. A $50 stereo was stolen from inside an unlocked Honda Accord.

April 6

2:05 p.m. 18800 Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country. Approximately $1,500 was stolen from inside a woman’s parked car while she was working at a nearby bakery. The woman saw a man break the car’s driver-side window with his palm and then drive away. She told authorities that she believes the man followed her from the bank.

Between 10:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Eleanor Circle, Canyon Country. Six vehicles parked on Eleanor Circle near the Highway 14 overpass were burglarized. Several thousand dollars worth of stereos, cash and other items were stolen from the vehicles.

April 7

9:17 a.m. 24800 Riverchase Drive, Valencia. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of vandalism after deputies saw him climbing out through the broken window of a woman’s bathroom. The man said he was in the bathroom to shave his face but workers locked him inside.

Between 9 p.m. and 10:30 a.m. 19000 block of Wellhaven St., Canyon Country. A woman reported that someone had shattered her bathroom window.

April 10

Between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. 27900 block of Urbandale Ave., Saugus. Residents discovered graffiti sprawled on the patio cover and table in a home’s yard.

April 11
2 a.m. 25399 The Old Road, Stevenson Ranch. A 20-year-old man was cited for trespassing after he was found inside a pool equipment storage room by security guards at the Mountain Terrace Apartments complex.

9:05 p.m. 25450 The Old Road, Stevenson Ranch. A 19-year-old Valencia man was arrested after he tried to steal about $86 worth of goods from Walmart.

1 p.m. 20642 Golden Triangle Road. A 26-year-old employee of the Home Depot was arrested on suspicion of embezzlement after the shop’s security guards discovered the man had stolen more than $1,000 from cash registers over the previous month.

April 12
9 p.m. 23449 Lyons Ave., Valencia. Authorities confiscated a counterfeit $100 bill at Vallarta Supermarket. It was in possession of a woman attempting to buy money orders there. She had several $100 bills and said she was unaware that one was counterfeit. She was not arrested.
