A group of Santa Clarita community leaders working in conjunction with City of Santa Clarita officials has organized a celebration: Taste of Cinco de Mayo. The celebration will consist of an afternoon and evening of festivities to recognize a growing segment of our population, Americans of Mexican descent. The hope is that as has become a custom with St. Patrick's Day and Oktoberfest all Americans will join in the celebration.

The celebration will take place on Thursday, May 5 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Main St. in Old Town Newhall. The City will close two blocks to traffic so the expected thousands of people can comfortably stroll and enjoy all the goings on. The festivities will include traditional Mexican food, music, and dance.

A large stage will be placed on the corner of Main and Market where there will be entertainment by three bands playing music for all ages highlighted by the very popular Son Locuaz. The Newhall Community Center will provide folklorico dancers. Food will be plentiful as there will be over a dozen food trucks catering to Mexican specialties. And yes, no celebration is complete without dancing so there will be plenty of room for people to "shake their booties."

The celebration is being organized by the Santa Clarita Valley Latino Chamber of Commerce, the Old Town Newhall Association and the City of Santa Clarita. The primary sponsor of the celebration is Frontier Toyota. Co- Sponsors include Union Bank, Our Valleys Magazine and Sabor Latino Supermarket.
