West Ranch senior swimmer Riley Mita has won his share of Foothill League titles, but he hasn't won a CIF-Southern Section Division I individual championship.

Mita set himself up to change that, however, with his performance at the CIF-SS Div. I prelims.

The United States Naval Academy-bound senior broke a Santa Clarita Valley district record in the 200-yard freestyle and earned a No. 1 seeding in the 500-yard freestyle to fill two of the 13 spots in the championship finals that the Foothill League earned during Wednesday's prelims in Long Beach.

The finals begin at 6 p.m. Friday at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach.

"I was pretty set on basically going all out today and not holding anything back," Mita said of the 200 freestyle. "In terms of the 500, it's pretty scary going in as the first seed because everyone is chasing you. It's pretty intimidating. It's nice to know that I didn't necessarily go my hardest in the 500 and it felt good. I can only imagine what is in store on Friday."

Mita swam the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 40.55 seconds to best Hart High graduate Ryan Parmenter's previous mark of 1:40.90, which was set in 1999. The Wildcats standout then recorded a 4:30.03 in the 500 freestyle. He was the league champion in both events this season.

But Mita wasn't the only swimmer to record impressive finishes.

Hart junior Nicole Antoniuk qualified eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:06.54) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (4:55.34). Valencia's Sophie Fiscella and West Ranch's Taylor Poliseno both finished their heats in the 50 freestyle in 24.13, good for sixth.

Indians senior captain Alex Ngan is seeded fifth in the 50 freestyle (20.79) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (45.84), while teammate Mitch Johnson qualified sixth in the 500 freestyle (4:36.62). Hart's Emma Osowski qualified sixth in the girls 500 freestyle (4:59.33).

Valencia senior Bob Hwang followed up an 11th-place time in the 200 IM (1:56.81) by making the championship finals in the 100 butterfly (seventh, 51.18).

Hart's girls 200-freestyle relay team of Nicolette Barreiro, Hayley Good, Bryana Waage and Sam Asencio qualified sixth (1:38.99), while the Indians' girls 400-freestyle relay team of Asia Antoniuk, Good, Barreiro and Asencio will start fifth (3:34.70) on Friday.

The championship finals are made up of the top eight qualifiers, while the ninth-16th-best times make up the consolation finals.

Friday's consolation finalists include the Hart girls' and boys' 200-medley relay teams and boys 400-freestyle relay team, Asia Antoniuk (100 butterfly, 13th and 500 freestyle, 12th), Mitch Johnson (100 butterfly, 11th), Good (100 freestyle, 13th), Megan Schultz (100 backstroke, 14th) and Matt Johnson (500 freestyle, 10th); Valencia's girls 200-freestyle relay team, Micaela Velasquez (200 freestyle, 11th and 100 freestyle, 15th) and Fiscella (100 freestyle, 12th); Poliseno (100 freestyle, 10th); and Saugus' Jonathan Morsch (200 freestyle, 14th), Katy Sonksen (500 freestyle, 15th) and Caitlin Baker (100 breaststroke, 12th).
