Library cards for the new Santa Clarita Public Library system will be available starting in June, officials announced in a statement Thursday.

The city plans to take control of operations of the Newhall, Valencia and Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy libraries from Los Angeles County on July 1. The new cards will be required to check out books, CDs and other materials from the three libraries when the city's public library system is launched, according to the statement.

Library patrons will be able to pick up their library cards between June 13 and June 24 at three separate locations:

Santa Clarita City Hall, 23920 Valencia Blvd. from 2 to 6 p.m.

Main Street Construction Office, 24406 Main St. from 2 to 6 p.m.

Santa Clarita Sports Complex's Aquatic Center, 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway from 1 to 7 p.m.

In order to receive a city library card, people will need to have a valid California driver's licence, identification card with current address or two alternate forms of identification that include a mailing address and photo identification.

Library cards will be available at the three Santa Clarita libraries starting July 1, city spokeswoman Gail Ortiz said.

The cards are free and feature 10 different designs that highlight city landmarks and various events held throughout the year including the Santa Clarita Marathon and Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival, Ortiz said.

Plain colored library cards are also available, she said.

Library card applications are available online at Call (661) 286-4055 for details.
