Grizzly freshman pluck Oak Park Eagles

Golden Valley 21, Oak Park 16

Jeff Coprich led the Grizzlies in rushing and scored three three touchdowns as the Golden Valley freshman won, 21-16. Included in Coprich's tallies was a 50-yard fourth quarter TD run that gave the Grizzlies their final margin of victory. The defense also played well holding the Eagles and finished the game with Alex Pleitez sacking the quarterback three times in a row. The defense also forced and recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass. Golden Valley will play at Pasadena next Saturday at 11 a.m.

Canyon 49, Chaminade 8

Coley Apsay caught six pass for 108 and two touchdowns Robert Hooper and Adam Evans combined for 13 tackles, eight of them for losses while collecting four sacks as the freshman Cowboys defeated Chaminade, 49-8.

Saugus 16, Canyon 2

Emily Wilson of Saugus swept all three sets 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, Yumi Suh (Saugus) won two sets 6-3, 6-1 as the Lady Centurians crushed Canyon High, 16-2.

In doubles, Saugus pairs Bea Araujo and Rachel Marucut; Pilar Araujo and Mariah Aguinaldo; and Christina Callas and Megan Soucy swept all of their matches, three games to none.

Saugus and Canyon are now both 1-2 in league play.

Prep Junior Varsity Tennis
Saugus 16, Canyon 2

Saugus singles players Irene and Esther Cho swept their games as the Centurion JV squad defeated Canyon, 14-4.

In doubles, Saugus tandems Shelby Johnson and Krystin Brainyard; Amanda Keller and Ashley Frederick; and Kimberly Gordon and Michelle Endo all swept their respective contests.

Saugus is now 3-0 in league play.
