High heel-a-thon hosted by Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley. Registration beginning noon at Veteran’s Plaza on Main Street in downtown Newhall. 1 p.m. Opening Ceremony at Veteran’s Plaza. 2 p.m. “Stomp out domestic and dating violence” 150-yard walk (featuring Golden Valley High Drumline) 2:15 p.m. Vendor Village Main Street shopping, games and fun. Gently used clothing needed
Wayman Cleaners is collecting gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories such as purses to distribute to the homeless and low-income populations in and around the SCV, clothes can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Wayman Cleaners, 23120 Lyons Ave, Suite 15. Interior design disasters for HGTV
Homeowners in the Santa Clarita Valley are sought who have an interior decorating disaster. HGTV is now casting energetic, fun-spirited homeowners who want to remedy their failed decorating attempts. Friends and families of homeowners may also apply — if you think your friend/relative needs a decorating intervention. Homeowners: Must have created a hideous room (that can be fixed cosmetically). Horrible color schemes, decorating “themes” gone wrong, “kitschy” becoming tacky. Loud designs welcome. Must have a family member or close friend who is troubled by the hideousness of the room. (Can be the homeowner him/herself.) Rooms that were decorated by the home’s previous owner will not be considered. Home must be within 60 miles of Los Angeles. Amgen Tour final leg starts in SCV
The Amgen Tour of California kicks off on Sunday, May 15, in Lake Tahoe and works its way down California to the final day on Sunday, May 22, where the city of Santa Clarita will host the start ceremonies for the final leg the race at the Westfield Valencia Town Center. Spectators can expect fun activities for the whole family leading up to the race including tricycle races, autograph signings with many of the world’s top cyclists, and the start of the final leg. The start ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. with the crack of the starter’s pistol sounding at noon. Info:

CHP Safe Senior Driving at center
The California Highway Patrol, Newhall area, will conduct a free four-week series of “Safe Senior Driving” classes at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center May 27-June 17. Held on consecutive Fridays from 1-2 p.m., the classes will promote education on: safe- driving  strategies; physiological and psychological changes that can affect driving; “CarFit” vehicle adjustments and knowing when it’s time to turn in your keys. Family outdoor movie night
The Foundation for Children’s Dental Health will host the second annual free Outdoor Family Movie Night presented by Advantage Disposal 7-10 p.m., Friday, June 3, at  Valencia Heritage Park, corner of McBean Parkway and Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia. Bring the family and a few blankets and enjoy the Dreamworks film “Megamind.” Pre-movie activities for the kids include face painting, crafts, raffle prizes, and more.  The “Snack Shack” will sell snacks. Grandparent/child advocates group

Advocates for Grandparent Grandchild Connection group meeting 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 4 at offices of Heart of The Canyons Church, 21618 Golden Triangle Road, Suite 106, Saugus 91350. A monthly group dedicated to reuniting grandparents and grandchildren.  It is comprised of grandparents, grandchildren, and parents united for the purpose to advocate for those children, to educate and bring into awareness, and support the grandparents who suffer from the loss of affection and contact with their grandchildren.
