The Santa Clarita Valley Child & Family Center’s daycare may not close this summer after all, officials said Wednesday.

The state is in talks with a third party to take over operations at Kids Corner Preschool, a state-funded daycare that provides early childhood education, said Darrell Paulk, CEO of the Child & Family Center on Centre Pointe Parkway.

The Child & Family Center has been providing mental health and behavioral services to children, adults and their families since 1976. Sixty-eight children attend the daycare this year; about half of those will attend kindergarten next year.

The remaining 33 students would be served by the third party, Paulk said.

“We’ve talked to the state, and they have apparently found a third party to operate the preschool,” Paulk said.

“They were looking for somebody to take over the contract and are now talking to somebody who in all likelihood is somebody to do this.

“For the parents and kids, this is the best news.”

While the third party would take on the preschool’s students, Paulk said he didn’t know whether the preschool’s 12 employees would be hired by the third party.
