The Santa Clarita Valley will host several Memorial Day events Monday to honor local fallen soldiers from all four branches of the U.S. military.

Eternal Valley Memorial Park and Mortuary will host its 23rd annual Memorial Day celebration beginning at 10 a.m. at 23287 Sierra Highway. The ceremony will feature a flyover from a group of AT-6 planes by the Condor Squadron.

The ceremony, which was organized by Eternal Valley officials and the Santa Clarita Valley Veterans Memorial Committee, will feature speeches from U.S. Congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon, R-Santa Clarita; retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Duane Harte; and Rabbi Mark Blazer of Temple Beth Ami.

Local Boy and Girl Scout groups will place more than 5,000 American flags on the graves of veterans.

Following the ceremony, the American Legion Post 507 will host a Memorial Day barbecue with free music and food from noon to 4 p.m. at the Newhall American Legion, 24527 Spruce St.

A Memorial Day parade ceremony will also be held in Friendly Valley at 9:30 a.m. featuring the Golden Valley High School Marching Band.

During a ceremony after Friendly Valley's parade, the names of deceased veterans will be read in the Friendly Valley Auditorium.
