Curse of the Ghoul Mine

SCV Scene

It’s the season for pumpkins and ghosts and goblins, galore! It’s also time to head out to Lombardi’s up Bouquet Canyon in Saugus. Devastated by the Buckweed Fire last year, Lombardi’s is back — and just as good as ever. Why not head out there this weekend and celebrate a Santa Clarita Valley institution?

At the SCV Historical Society
The Curse of the Ghoul Mine is the theme for this year’s Heritage Haunt in Newhall. Kudos to haunt masters extraordinare Ed Marg and Scott Sivley. These guys know the meaning of “doing” — not just “saying.” They’ve spent long hours with a crew of other “haunt” fans in crafting a wonderful experience for young and old to benefit the SCV Historical Society in Newhall. Head out to Heritage Junction weekends until Halloween and be prepared to be scared 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights Oct. 17–18, Oct. 24-25 and Thursday to Saturday nights Oct. 30 to Nov. 1. Tickets are $13 at the gate. Events will include the Heritage Haunt Pumpkin Festival on the afternoon of Oct. 18 (a great way for little ones to see the Haunt in daylight!), live bands, theatrical dance production of Sleepy Hollow, a musical light show, photo opportunities with haunted scenes and scare zones. The Golden Goose Gala
Seen at the Golden Goose Gala, held in a very unique location at the Agua Dulce Airport were Paul De La Cerda and Miss Castaic, Seher Awan, Debbie and John Heys, Julie and Steve Sturgeon, Ed and Valerie Masterson, John Dow, Morris Thomas, John Shaffery, Kyle and Jeanna Crawford, Wayne Crawford, Jason and Michelle Crawford, Bob Kellar and Kathy Keysor Smith, Brian and Lindsay Koegle, Jeanne and BJ Adkins, Marlee Lauffer, Richard and Marian Sandnes, Byron Alverado, Michael and Angela Owston, Bob Hudson and Margo Miller, Michael and Catherine Niles, Lina and Roger Seaver, Diana Vose and Ernest Guaderrama and Suzanne and Jim Burens of Wild Heart Winery.

Loose Goose Festival
It was a lovely weekend of fine wine and food at the Loose Goose Wine Festival. I was impressed with the wonderful food offered up by all the vendors, RSVP had killer butternut squash ravioli, in addition to other goodies. I found a weakness for the red velvet cupcakes at Babe’s Dessert Bar and the bread and spread platter offered by Salt Creek Grille was the best! The wine was wonderful, too. I’m a new fan of the 2006 Chardonnay from Château St. Michelle and that red sparkling wine from Italy that the Grape Crusader offered up at the Golden Goose Gala. Yum! More, please?

Newlyweds Bob Hudson and Margo Miller
I’ve heard from nearly everyone around town about Bob and Margo’s wonderful wedding cruise. Kudos to the happy couple! My sincere good wishes for a long and happy marriage!

Thelma’s Morning Cafe
Marianne Linder past along a tip that Thelma’s Morning Cafe, 22876 Copper Hill Road, Saugus (next to the CVS drugstore) has opened for dinner Thursdays through Saturday. You can bring your own wine for a small corkage free ($7) and enjoy some of the tastiest food in the SCV. “You feel like you are in Santa Monica/LA at a small trendy 5-star restaurant,” she said.
