Sports shorts: Centurions tame Grizzlies

COC women's spikers win again

Varsity Volleyball
Saugus 3, Golden Valley 0

Saugus defeated Golden Valley in three straight sets on Tuesday, 25-9 25-10 25-14.

The Centurions' Alyssa Terwall had a team-high 32 assists. Katie Estes had 19 kills and Brigette Mayes added 13 digs.

Saugus improves its record to 2-1 in the Foothill League (16-2 overall).

Varisty Tennis
West Ranch 10, Hart 8

West Ranch defeated Hart 10-8 at Hart.

Playing well for West Ranch was their No. 1 doubles team of True O'Neill and Mallory Martin, who won all three sets. In singles, Anna Lucia Fuentes and Gavelynn Poonapatim won two sets each.

For Hart, Anne Susdorf remained undefeated in league sweeping three sets including an hour-and-a-half tiebreak set with Anna Lucia Fuentes.

West Ranch is now 4-1 and Hart is 3-2 in league.

College Women's Volleyball
COC 3, West L.A. 0

College of the Canyons is still undefeated in the Western States Conference, after Tuesday's win over West Los Angeles College.

COC is 3-0 in conference (11-6 overall).

Opposite hitter Caitlyn Ramirez led the Cougars in kills with nine. Outside hitter Lauren Wells followed with five kills and six digs. Danielle Evans had 17 assists and Ashley Arnold added 10.

COC's next home match is Oct. 28 against L.A. Pierce College. Its next match is at 7 p.m. on Friday at Citrus College in Glendora.

College Men's Soccer
The Master's 0, Azusa Pacific 0, 2OT

The Master's College ended scoreless in a double overtime draw on Tuesday against Azusa Pacific, the No. 5-ranked team in the NIAA.

TMC's Fabio Joaquim attempted three shots while teammate Guilherme Mitrovitch tried to get the Mustangs on the board attempting two shots, one on goal.

TMC is currently 2-1-2 in the Golden State Athletic Conference (7-1-3 overall).

Junior Varsity Volleyball
Valencia 2, Canyon 0
Ashton LaVoise and Sydney Striff both had five kills as the Vikings blanked the Cowboys.

Freshman Volleyball
West Ranch 2, Hart 1
After losing the first game to Hart 26-24; West Ranch came on strong to beat the Indians 25-23 and 15-23.

In all three games Allison Matern, Brooke Stice and Ally Strait dominated Hart with their serves.

In the second and third games the West Ranch trio of Matern for the bump, Kelly Spurling for the set and Stice for the kill were trouble for the Hart defenders.

Kelsey Sellars and libero, Jenna Baker, kept the ball in play helping in the West Ranch victory.

Freshman Boys Soccer
Saugus Coaching Position

Saugus High School has an opening for a freshmen boys soccer coach.

Candidates should exhibit effective communication skills, display a professional demeanor in representing
an education institution, demonstrate outstanding organizational skills and is highly qualified to teach soccer to high school students.
