Letter: Hart district board members are bullies

Once again, the front page of a recent Sunday Signal reflects the stupidity of two board members on the William S. Hart High School Board.

State Sen. Tony Strickland has sent a letter to the attorney general’s office to look into conflict-of-interest allegations made against Gloria Mercado-Fortine. The FPPC says there is no conflict of interest, yet Messina and Sturgeon continue to bully Hart board members to fight a battle that’s already been won.

You know it is bad enough to see our corrupt government and the spineless creatures in Washington, D.C., who continue to fight for their parties and not the people. Now, we see to have the same problem within our own backyard.

This is my home; I’m a product of this community, and my family has lived here since the 1930s. I’m a Hart alumnus, as are my family members. Gloria Mercado-Fortine and her husband Bruce Fortine are products of this valley, too. They are the very life of what’s right in this community, and neither one is afraid to stand up for those rights. After all, being on a school board should require its members to value its students.

So why can’t you quit the damn bickering and work together?

I don’t understand why Messina and Sturgeon just can’t accept the answer to their question without manipulating the process to get Tony Strickland’s office to go to the Attorney General’s Office.

Messina says, “It goes back to making sure the board is clean.”

Messina, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know you and Sturgeon are in the business of bullying board members to get your way. Now who is calling Mercado-Fortine’s kettle black? Maybe you should run for “pass the Buck” McKeon’s office.

There is an election this fall on Nov. 8, and this is our chance to re-elect Gloria Mercado-Fortine, who stands up for students and our community. It is also your opportunity to vote for another candidate who values our students and schools and will make a difference on the board.

Messina and Sturgeon are definitely part of the problem on the board. Sturgeon is up for re-election. Do you want more of Washington D.C. in our backyard?
