Political Roundup: Republicans rally in SCV

Santa Clarita Valley Republicans will come together this weekend for a rally from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Newhall Park, 24933 Newhall Avenue.

"Rally in the Valley" is sponsored by the Republican clubs of the Santa Clarita Valley and will feature Santa Clarita's Republican ticket of candidates as well as live entertainment provided by the band Acoustic Soul.

Small Business backs Runner
The National Federation of Independent Business/California announced its endorsement of George Runner in California Senate District 17.

"George Runner knows the issues that small business owners face on a daily basis," said John Kabateck, NFIB/CA Executive Director. "He supports NFIB's positions on numerous business issues, including health care reform, and will reliably represent the interests of small business in the Capitol. He is a positive voice in support of small business in the legislature."

Small Business backs Strickland
The National Federation of Independent Business/California announced its endorsement of Tony Strickland in California Senate District 19.

"Tony Strickland will be a welcome addition to the Senate," said John Kabateck, NFIB/CA Executive Director.

"Tony's keen understanding of small business issues and priorities is something we need in the Senate and NFIB is proud to support him. He will be a positive voice in support of small business in the legislature."

Gov. endorses Strickland
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger endorsed Tony Strickland for the 19th District State Senate seat. Strickland is hoping to win the seat of Tom McClintock, who was termed out of office.

"Tony's strength as a leader is admirable," said Schwarzenegger. "His fight for renewable energy is the foundation of his economic plan and I need him standing with me as we transition California into a renewable, energy efficient economy. We need independent thinkers like Tony Strickland in Sacramento."

McKeon and Smyth endorse Measure SA
U.S. Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) and Assemblyman Cameron Smyth (R-Santa Clarita) announced their support for Measure SA, the school bond initiative on the Nov. 4 ballot.

"It is more important than ever to support our local schools and pass Measure SA," McKeon said. "The state will not take care of our schools. We can't leave our students behind when it comes to needed improvements that will ensure their continued success at the highest levels."

"Birdies for the Brave"
Valencia Country Club is set to hold a press conference at 11 a.m. Tuesday naming Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) Honorary Chairman of a large-scale golf tournament fundraiser called Birdies for the Brave.

The local Birdies for the Brave fundraiser will be held Nov. 24 and is part of a national military outreach program supporting the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.

California taxpayers say Smyth is perfect
Assemblyman Smyth (R-Santa Clarita) announced for the second straight year, he scored a perfect 100 percent on the California Taxpayers' Association legislative voting record, showing strong support for the taxpayers of this state.
