Halloween is nearly upon us, and with it comes smiling painted or masked little faces, pillowcases with chocolate stains and, of course, the annual Haunted Jailhouse event hosted by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department.

In its 22nd year, the award-winning event is expected to draw more than 1,000 children and community members for an afternoon of games, music, food and scary fun at the SCV Sheriff’s Station, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday.

Besides the Sheriff’s Station, the event is also being hosted by the SCV Boys & Girls Club, SCV Newhall Optimist Club, the city of Santa Clarita, and Los Angeles County. The $1 donation at the gate will be given to the Boys & Girls Club.

Along with the two age-specific Haunted Jailhouse tours, which were decorated by the Boys & Girls Club, this year’s event will include costume contests for ages 2 and younger, and up to 13 and older.

We would like to thank the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department and the other hosts for putting on this outstanding event that makes the SCV such a great and unique place to live.

This, along with other events, such as the Lombardi Ranch pumpkin patch and scarecrow contest help make the SCV what it is — a safe and family-friendly environment that supports community fun as much as its well-being.

We applaud the local clubs and businesses that help put together these organized events that allow both children and parents alike to enjoy the excitement of Halloween which has become a big holiday in recent years.

It’s a time for families to have fun together, let loose a little and “scare” each other with their creativity. And with these events, it’s all in a safe environment.

The Signal wishes everyone a safe and fun Halloween.
