Lutness used students to distribute campaign literature

Those attending the William S. Hart High School District’s Disaster Preparedness Summit on Tuesday took the time out of their busy schedules to ensure they and their families are ready for the next earthquake, flood and wildfire.

They were even greeted with an impressive display from the district’s ROP Fire Explorers.

Unfortunately, Carole Lutness, candidate for state Assembly, and her campaign team tried to spoil the evening. According to the Fire Explorers, Lutness and campaign officials approached them and asked them to distribute materials to conference participants.

The Explorers were unaware that the material was not part of the event and that campaign material cannot be distributed according to district policy.

It is understandable that the cadets did not understand the request or know what they were handing out. However, it borderlines on unethical for Lutness to manipulate those students to distribute her campaign literature in direct violation of the district’s policy.

Instead of her and her followers breaking the rules, she asked students to do it for her. In addition, Lutness left the event for the Explorers to answer for her and her campaign’s actions.

This was an event to highlight disaster preparedness, not for political exploitation. Lutness should apologize to the ROP Fire Explorers and the Hart school district for trying to tarnish the event.
