The First Presbyterian Church of Newhall is holding its 2011 Alternative Christmas Gift Market on Nov. 20 and Dec. 4 to help the community find gifts this season.

The market will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the church.

The Alternative Market gives the community a way to donate or help local and international causes in time for the holidays.
Five local and six regional or international groups will be selling gifts of wood, food or hope.

The groups who will participate this year include the following: Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Winter Shelter, Family Promise of SCV, Free Wheelchair Mission, Heifer International, Help the Children Santa Clarita, Mary Magdalene Project, Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center, Presbyterian Coffee Project and Ten Thousand Villages. Locally, the Deacons of the church are offering a star ornament and two different Christmas Note cards for sale to raise money. The Deacons have committed themselves to providing supportive services and care to community of faith by providing financial assistance to families facing eviction.

Local writer Judy Reinsma is turning over the proceeds from the sale of her book, “The Legend of Wunderbar,” to help pay for kids to attend church camp. The book is set in medieval Europe, and follows Wunderbar, a horse who grows antlers, and as his antlers grow, he faces more and more difficult challenges.

For more information, contact (661) 259-0555. The church is located at 24317 North Newhall Ave. in Newhall.
