I know I speak for many of us when I ask the question, “How did it get to be December?” The end of 2011 is in sight when December rolls into the Santa Clarita Valley on Thursday. What happened to October and November? Wasn’t it just July?

Neonatal intensive care unit benefit

Four different SCV homes will be featured Friday evening at the Home Tour VIP Gala and the Saturday public viewing of the annual Holiday Home Tour to benefit the neonatal intensive care unit at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. The Westridge home of Martin Avila and Fredye Gonzales, the Stevenson Ranch home of John and Judy Hall and the Newhall residences of Marvin and Gail Smith and Roger and Becki Basham will be open to visitors ready to celebrate the holiday season. Saturday’s home tickets are $25 each.

Only individuals 12 and older may attend. For more information or to purchase tickets for the Henry Mayo Holiday Home Tour, visit or call (661) 253-8051.

Holiday Home Tour boutique

One of my favorite boutiques is the one offered by the Home Tour League. This year’s boutique has moved to Hart Hall, adjacent to William S. Hart Park. The boutique will feature a variety of gifts and goodies. The boutique will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 24151 Newhall Ave., Newhall.

Beautiful Festival of Trees

I think this year’s Festival of Trees, to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of SCV, may have been among the event’s best ever. The gingerbread houses were a delight of creativity and whimsy, the table top trees and wreaths were at times fun, beautiful and creative.

The Moon River Cabin, decorated with such love and care by Lauren McGuire and Rachel Odle, was a fabulous addition to the event. The full-size trees, all decorated with such love and care were a delight to view and to drool over. Kudos to Donna Bendell, of Six Flags Magic Mountain, for another inspired effort. The designs were truly inspired, and the trees reflected the hard work of all the talented designers.

Magic of the Lights Gala

A few of the nearly 400 faces seen at the annual Magic of the Lights Gala to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of SCV: Harold and Jacquie Petersen, Tom Petersen and Anita Mays, Richard and Marian Sandnes, Katrina and Chris Schuable, Darrell and Patty Paulk, Morris Thomas, Jason Schaff, Marlee Lauffer and Laine Hedman, Bill and Cathy Kennedy and Gary and Myrna Condie.
