Heads-Up for Heads Up

To The Editor:

As many of you are aware, on Feb. 16, the Jim Tindell Bowl-a-Thon for Heads Up was postponed. It was not a planned event and you could say that it was just rotten luck. The event was being hosted by the SCV-Newhall Optimist Club and there were over 80 people there ready to bowl.

Five minutes before 6 p.m. the power went out at Santa Clarita Lanes and the surrounding blocks.
Everyone was fantastic in that they did not complain and stayed there for 50 minutes waiting to see if the electricity would come on again.

As president of Heads Up and the co-chairman of this year's event I called around to see if we could get a status. No one had any answers so I asked everyone to sit for a few more minutes and wait.

The emergency lights inside the bowling alley were getting dim and the staff told me that we had around 10 more minutes of light left, and after that everyone would have to leave. I announced that we would reschedule the event again and asked everyone to leave. No complaints and no issues, just a building full of optimistic people who were excited about helping.

Funny thing that happened as I was driving away, is the electricity came back on. My wife looked at me and said even God wanted Jim Tindell to make it to our first Bowl-a-Thon in his name. I smiled and said I think she was right.

The good news is that Jim will make this next one and it will be the best Bowl-a-Thon this valley has ever seen. The other fantastic thing is that now everyone that wanted to get involved in helping can by calling me directly at (661) 236-7265.

Sure we have had our hard times, but we have also had some great miracles come out of them over the last few months.

It is because of the people that cared to show up for the Bowl-a-Thon that we are starting to recover from the October fire.

Let me say thanks for everything that SCV has done over the last 20 years to make sure Heads Up is still here.

Editor's Note: The Bowl-a-Thon has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 29.
