The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce has opened nominations for its Small, Medium and Large Business of the Year awards for 2011.

Companies eligible for nomination must have been members in good standing with the SCV Chamber of Commerce for a period of longer than one year, and should have been actively involved in chamber activities, said Terri K. Crain, president and CEO. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 9.

A selection committee will meet on Dec. 12 to review all nominations, Crain said. Final nominees will be asked to provide biographical information detailing the company’s involvement with the chamber and the SCV community throughout the past year. Final nominees will be announced Dec. 13.

Companies winning a small, medium or large business award will announced at the SCV Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet and installation dinner Jan. 12.

“The business awards have been a chamber staple for many years and we are proud to be honoring some of the SCV chamber’s shining stars,” Crain said.

A small business is defined as having between one to nine employees, a medium business has 10 to 40 employees, and a large business has 41 or more employees.

Past small-business award recipients included: Plumbing by Kirk; A-1 Party; Candleman of Valencia; Vino 100; and Steve’s Valencia Florist.

Lexus of Valencia, Burrtec Waste Industries, Poole & Shaffery LLP, SOS Entertainment and SCV Bank were past medium business award winners.

And past large award winners were The Signal, Chiquita Canyon Landfill, La Quinta Inn & Suites, Bristol Farms and Stay Green.

The chamber asks that nominations for member businesses have actively involved with chamber events, the community, community outreach efforts, reflected the goals of, and supported, the chamber, made best use of the chamber programs and resources to promote one’s own business, and supported and promoted other member businesses by utilizing their services.

Past award winners are not eligible for nomination if they previously won an award in the past five years.

Nominations need to be emailed or faxed to the SCV Chamber of Commerce by 5 p.m., Dec. 9.
