More than 200 families were adopted for the holidays by members of the community, businesses and the Princess Cruises Community Foundation.

A party to distribute the gifts was held Dec. 17 at the Santa Clarita United Methodist Church.

The effort helped 665 parents and children, said DaAnne Smith, executive director of Single Mothers Outreach.

“This year almost two thirds of our families requested help for the holidays,” she said.

Among those who gave to the effort were:

* Princess Cruises Foundation and employees, who adopted 100 families;

* the city of Santa Clarita, which adopted 10 families;

* Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital adopted 10 families;

* SCV Rotary adopted a family of 10;

* Thank Heaven for 7-11 at the last minute adopted all eight wait-listed families;

* Camelot Moving and Storage helped transport gifts;

* iMAX Bancard Network, Inc. gave gifts to 35 children;

* Kiwanis and the Aktion Club donated food for 15 families; and

* Brian Frieders donated 15 live Christmas trees.

“We also had 74 individuals and businesses that also adopted families,” said Smith. “We are so grateful to everyone who helped.”
