As a Santa Clarita native, Erika Kauzlarich-Bird has spent years in the local Realtor community.
Now, as the incoming president of the Santa Clarita Valley chapter of the Southland Regional Association of Realtors, she hopes to bring back a tight-knit feeling to the organization.

Q: For our readers, define the SRAR’s objective.
A: Our motto is: “The voice for real estate in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys.” We like to provide education for the Realtors, as well as the community.

Q: What has been your involvement with SRAR?
A: I have been a member since becoming a Realtor in 1996. I became part of SRAR’s council for about five years.

Q:  Why do you want to be president?
A: I am hoping to be able to bring value to our members and continue to educate the membership and the community at large — that our association does so much more other than service the Realtors, through education and through local charities out here.

Q: Describe your history/business experience in the Santa Clarita Valley.
A: I was born and raised here. I started real estate with my mom when I was in high school, and my mom convinced me to get my real estate license to help her out.

The day I got my real estate license, I bought a townhome and the rest of history. It’s been 15-plus years, and I fell in love with it and just continued to work at it. I started Triple D in 2005.

Q:  What do you believe members want from the SRAR?
A: It’s a very volatile time right now with the market, and I think more than anything, the membership is looking for support, both educational and emotional.

It’s such a great community, and we all stick together, so it’s giving them that strength and extra support that they need, to continue on in these tough times.

Q: What do you want to achieve in the next year?
A: I would really like to bring membership all back together.

There was a time when we didn’t have these separate networking groups, and we truly were one community of Realtors. I would sort of like to get that back — that camaraderie — all while giving back to our charities in this valley that need it the most.

Q: Are there any new initiatives you’d like to launch in 2012?
A: We’re going to try to schedule an advisory group each month, and I am looking forward to having some great speakers for the members. I kind of believe that you can’t have too much education. Then, not only are they succeeding personally but they are succeeding in giving our community the best representation they can.
