Been a breezy winter so far. Punxsutawney Phil has predicted six more weeks of winter, so I guess we better batten down the hatches so we don’t blow away.

Sweetheart Serenades available

Leave your sweetheart speechless with the unique gift of a singing Valentine from the Men of Harmony. The annual fundraiser for this enterprising group of barbershop quartet singers will be offered Feb. 13 and Feb. 14.

Singing Valentines can be delivered anywhere in the SCV. Regular delivery is $45 for a singing Valentine delivered between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Each Valentine includes a flower gift.

Straight from the Heart delivery (guaranteed time within 15 minutes) is $55.

To order a Sweetheart Serenade, call (661) 296-2292.

Bill Wolf

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Wolf, a longtime member of the Men of Harmony. Bill was always my contact with the group and his energy and enthusiasm for the craft of four-part harmony was endless. In the swirl of events and deadlines I was only slightly aware that I hadn’t heard from him in a long while.

“We all miss Bill very much. He was a bright light,” said Keith Oberg of Men of Harmony. That he was — a very bright light.

Nominations due for SCV Man and Woman of the Year

It is that time of year again when the nonprofit organizations in the SCV can nominate some of their outstanding volunteers for the Man and Woman of the Year.
