Craft show all weekend
The city of Santa Clarita hosts the "Fine Craft Show" from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday at Old Orchard Park, 25023 Avenida Rotella. More than 70 artists and crafters will be selling items like jewelry, pottery and ceramics, hand-painted clothing and home decor items.

City launches online retail store
The city of Santa Clarita launched an online boutique,, featuring speciality Santa Clarita-branded items. Some of the items on sale include the 20th anniversary history book, Cowboy Festival merchandise and street signs.

Locals fill boxes for needy kids
Volunteers are collecting simple shoe box gifts personally packed by children, families, and individuals here in Santa Clarita. From Santa Clarita, the shoe box gifts will be sorted and sent using whatever means necessary - sea containers, trucks, buses, trains, airplanes, helicopters, boats, camels, even dog sleds - to reach suffering children around the world.

The local collection site is Grace Baptist Church, 22833 Copper Hill Dr., Santa Clarita. Collection times are by appointment only Nov. 17-20, noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 21-22, and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 23.

Welcome home event for Marine
Bob and Rachel Phillipps will host a neighborhood welcome back reception for their son, Lance Cpl. Jeffrey Phillipps, at 8 p.m. at their home, 15725 Bronco Drive, Canyon Country.

Jeffery is a Marine who is returning home from Fallujah, Iraq, where he was deployed for the last seven months.

Residents invited to film screenings
In celebration of Air Force Week, the Air Force Film Festival will present two complimentary screenings of the film "Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag" from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Edwards Canyon Country 10 Theater, 18800 Soledad Canyon Road.

The film captures pilot John Stratton as he perseveres through the international training exercise for air forces of allied countries called "Red Flag."
