On the heels of Saugus girls soccer’s penalty-kicks victory over Tesoro High in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Div. I playoffs on Friday, the Centurions have climbed back into the top 40 of the ESPNHS Powerade Fab 50 Girls’ Soccer Rankings.

Saugus sits at No. 39 in the week 12 rankings.

The national rankings include teams from the eight states which play girls soccer during the winter season: Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada and Texas.

The Centurions (20-3-3) were No. 42 in last week’s edition.

Saugus had climbed to as high as No. 25 in the country in week 9, but tumbled down to No. 49 after a loss to Hart and ties with Valencia and West Ranch.

In the ESPNHS state-specific rankings, the Centurions hold the No. 12 spot in the state.

Saugus has an opportunity to solidify its spot in the Fab 50 rankings when it faces San Clemente High, ranked No. 7 nationally, on Wednesday in a second-round matchup.

And it doesn’t get any easier with a victory, with Saugus’ most likely third-round opponent being nationally ranked Harvard Westlake at No. 10.
