In just a few days some of the best names in golf - Tom Kite, Jay Haas, Fuzzy Zoeller, Tom Purtzer, Nick Price, Mark O'Meara, and Loren Roberts to name a few - will compete for a $1.6 million dollar purse as part of the annual AT&T Champions Classic taking place March 10-16 at the beautiful Valencia Country Club in Santa Clarita.

Many of you have been fans of the AT&T Champions Classic tournament since it began calling Santa Clarita home in 2000. We are proud to say that through the years, the Santa Clarita business and residential communities have supported this world-class tournament, which not only attracts some of the best names in golf, but contributes more than $7 million in economic benefit to Santa Clarita and its businesses, and garners national and international exposure for our City through television and print media coverage.

You may be thinking a golf tournament is only fun for the people playing, but over the years, fans have been won over by the PGA Champions match because it is so much fun for spectators. The atmosphere is infused with excitement, anticipation, and an unprecedented amount of laughter. Many have come to appreciate the talented golfers and their love of the adoring fans, many of whom travel from across the nation to catch a day of tournament play. It is fun to watch as fans become more than spectators, playing in the Pro-Am tournament with their favorite professional, or stepping inside the ropes to catch a glimpse of the greens from the other side.

If you have not had the pleasure of enjoying the tournament in the last eight years, we invite you to make this the year you come out and enjoy. It only takes one time for this event to become one of your annual Santa Clarita favorites.

The Valencia Country Club's master-designed course makes our City one of the best locations for the tournament and a favorite among players. The entire Valencia Country Club team should be commended for the scrupulous care of the course. Dave Stockton, one of the all-time great putters, recently said the par threes at Valencia Country Club are among the toughest set on the Champions Tour. Tom Purtzer, the 2007 tournament winner, has said that Santa Clarita is one of his favorite stops on the Tour, not only because of the course, but for the community support and enthusiasm.

Tournament week is busy providing many opportunities for you to participate in and enjoy this world-class event.

The week kicks off with the AT&T Champions Classic Pro-Am, pairing amateur Santa Clarita golfers with professionals. In years past, the Pro-Am attracted acclaimed celebrities such as Dennis Quaid, George Lopez, and Jerry Rice. In fact, if playing a round at the Country Club with professional golfers and celebrities sounds like fun, there are still a few foursome spots available. The Pro-Am also includes dinner, a cocktail reception, the awards ceremony, on-course hospitality, and a gala event.

First round events for the Champions Classic will begin on Friday, March 14 and continue through the final round on March 16.

In addition to offering residents and visiting golf enthusiasts an exhilarating event, the AT&T Champions Classic positively impacts our community. Like all Champions Tour events, the tournament benefits local charities. It also brings unrivaled exposure to our community, attracts an estimated 40,000 spectators to Santa Clarita, and contributes approximately $7 million annually to local businesses.

The 2008 Champions Classic is expected to bring more visitors and recognition of Santa Clarita as a premier lifestyle destination. The tournament is televised throughout the weekend on The Golf Channel and various other sports programs and stations, is included in news broadcasts regionally and nationally, and is highlighted in national newspapers and radio broadcasts, allowing Santa Clarita to enjoy ample time in the national spotlight throughout tournament week.

Santa Clarita's national exposure as home of the AT&T Champions Classic further supports our position as one of the most sought-after Southern California destinations, offering distinctive golf courses, big city amenities and small-town charm.

The City of Santa Clarita has worked hand-in-hand with event organizers to ensure Santa Clarita's constant visibility throughout the tournament, in addition to providing information about the variety of activities available within the City during the tournament's full roster of golf events.

Tickets for the AT&T Champions Classic are on sale and available through local charity partners, at City Hall, and at the tournament's box office. Admission to the tournament is free on Monday and Tuesday, March 10th and 11th, while daily admission from Wednesday through Sunday is $15 per person. Weekly admission passes and special group packages are also available online and through the box office.

Event parking is at College of the Canyons with a shuttle bus continuously providing access to and from Valencia Country Club. Daily parking is $5 per vehicle, while a weekly parking pass is available for $10.
For tournament and ticket information, please visit, call (661) 260-1897, or stop by the main gate to purchase tickets on-site at the tournament.

Remember, the AT&T Champions Classic is not just fun for the players. It's great fun for spectators. We are eagerly awaiting the tournament's return, and look forward to seeing you on the greens in Santa Clarita!
