Three local college runners gained entrance into the prestigious Stanford Invitational.

The Master’s College’s Anthony Pizzo and John Gilbertson both qualified in the 5,000-meter race, while College of the Canyons’ Chris Low qualified in the 800.

Pizzo ran the 5,000 in 14 minutes, 10.64 seconds at the Ben Brown Invitational on March 10 at Cal State Fullerton, while Gilbertson ran the race in 14:11.96. TMC head coach Zach Schroeder submitted both times for qualification for the Stanford Invitational, and both were accepted.

Low, meanwhile, ran the 800 in 1:50.30 at the Cal Relays on March 16 at Cerritos College, and he was also accepted into the Stanford Invitational field.

The Stanford Invitational will take place from April 6-7 and features the top collegiate track and field athletes from all across the country and across all divisions.

Pizzo and Gilbertson have both already qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Championships in the 5,000, as well as the 1,500 and marathon.

Low is the defending California Community College Athletic Association state champion in the 800.
