With 20 years of nationwide experience in the hotel and hospitality industry behind her, Cindy Landes began her new position as the general manager of the Hyatt Regency Valencia on April 2.

Landes came from San Francisco, where she managed the Marriot Fisherman’s Wharf hotel for the last 5 1/2 years. Both the Fisherman’s Wharf and the Hyatt Regency Valencia are operated by Interstate Hotels and Resorts, a U.S.-based global hotel management company, for which Landes has worked for 14 years.

She replaces former general manager Chris Aldieri, who left the hotel earlier this year. Martijn Sax served as interim manager during the search for Landes.

Hailing from Arkansas, Landes has managed five hotels, including ones in Detroit, Phoenix and Rochester, NY, and calls the hospitality industry rewarding.

“Even though it’s hard work, you’re getting to work with people, and no day is the same,” she said, adding that the hotel industry is unique in that she has the opportunity to meet and connect with guests from every kind of industry. “It’s something that’s really resonated with me.”

Landes’ biggest priority when she takes over a new hotel is to develop very consistent service expectations so that guests and clients experience the same level of service, while “trying to inject warmth into that service,” she said.

“That makes everything so much easier,” she said. “when everyone accepts that we’re here for the same reason, and that’s to provide a great experience.”

Landes said she helped create more cohesion between all departments at the Fisherman’s Wharf, but that the Hyatt Regency Valencia departments seemed to work toward the same mission already.

“As far as the guest is concerned, it doesn’t matter what department you’re in,” Landes said. “We’re here to meet and exceed their expectations. Here, I think there’s already a great sense of team at this hotel.”

Coming from San Francisco, where her hotel was one of 282 in the city, Landes is looking forward to being part of a tighter-knit community in Santa Clarita.

“I love Marriot, but having the opportunity to work at Hyatt Regency and one that is so rooted in the community — that’s very important to me,” she said.
