Tired of the GOP Party

Reading Steve Lunetta's Uncle Earl column ("Uncle Earl's view on the election," Nov. 20) summed up what is wrong with the Republican Party: a loss of ideals, finger-pointing, idle gossip, fear-mongering and a considerable state of denial.

Just a few excerpts:

"The Republicans became Democrats." The Republicans ran up the largest federal debt in history, gave tax cuts to the rich elite and borrowed our future for war money from the Communist Chinese.

"He (Bush) looked the other way while evil men plundered the markets ... " This statement reminded me of a German war bride I knew who thought Hitler was a good guy but all the guys under him were to blame. How many Republicans are out because of corruption? The current list starts with: Stevens, Cunningham, DeLay ...

Economics: " ... incredibly stupid House lending practices forced on Freddie and Fannie by the Clintons..." The de-regulation legislation was spearheaded by Republican Senator Phil Gramm and passed through Congress on a Republican mantra of "free markets," which the Clintons did subscribe to.

Proposition 8: "Stop trying to equate the gay rights struggle to the '60s civil rights struggle." For me the only people I see making this argument are far-right-wing talk radio personalities.

The left's argument I've heard is more equitable to people marrying of different races. It wasn't that long ago when that was illegal. Ask one of the 50,000 veterans who couldn't marry a Japanese in the 1950s but could marry a German.

It seems that by the seven-million-plus vote for Obama that most Americans are tired of Uncle Earl's Republican Party corporate polka and are ready to roll up their sleeves to fix the considerable mess that our tired "Uncle Earls" created.

Meanwhile, Uncle Earl seems perfectly content to sit on America's foreclosed porch to stew, fester and gripe at the new kid's rock music.
