The following essays were submitted by fifth-graders from Live Oak Elementary School.

First place
Sam Card
My favorite Dr. Seuss is "The Cat in the Hat."
You can't explain that, but it's about a cat that is not fat.
I like it because it's cool. You can read it, and it won't make you drool.
Thing One, Thing Two you'll have to chase, but it will be a challenge for you to race.
There's be running so fast, you can't catch them or make them last. It was like a party blast.
They need to clean or their mom would have broken her spleen. That's just mean.
The cat was sad when the children were mad. So they cleaned up.
After that, you would need a cup of tea. 'Twas so clean after that, as you can see.
After he left, they weren't bored, even though the house was cleaner than a sword.
Second place
Hailee Santiago
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Green Eggs and Ham," and the best part about the book is how they go to different places each time.
It is a very funny story, and I like the way it rhymes, because in the book it says, "I don't want to eat with you and I don't want to go there or here or anywhere." I think that's how it went.
Dr. Seuss had so many books that rhymed, it's amazing how he just started to think of what would rhyme, and his drawings in all of the books are so funny and cute.
Kids can always go up in their room or wherever they are and grab a Dr. Seuss book or any book and just read.
Reading helps with kids' vocabulary and words.
The Dr. Seuss books are funny and silly.
There's one thing, they are good books to read any time of the day.
Chapter books are good also.

Third place
Angel Cruz
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Hop on Pop." I like this book because it is hilarious. It teaches you rhyming words like "hop pop, we hop on pop."
I wonder how many ginormous books he's made in a year. I wonder if he has a big, huge, ginormous house, pool, car, book(s) and a big, huge, wait for it, almost there, a big banana!
I wonder if the Lorax are real and the Cat in the Hat or the Grinch. I want to meet him so, so, so, so, so, so bad. I would give anything just to meet him.
I wonder if he likes leopards, cats, dogs or scary, creepy, slimy, hairy spiders. I wonder if he watches television a lot or plays video games like "Call of Duty."
I like all of his books, like "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "The Cat in the Hat." "Hop on Pop" is funny. There's a lot of rhyming words.
I like "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" also, because it reminds me about joy, family, toys and toys! Those are my favorite books. Bye.

Parker Brenes
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Green Eggs and Ham."
In this story, a little person tries to make someone else eat his green eggs and ham. Every time the little person tells the other person to eat his breakfast, the other person says he doesn't like it.
The other person walks away, but everywhere he goes, the little person comes along too.
My favorite part is the end of the story when the little person asks the other person so many times that the person finally tried his green eggs and ham, and he loved it!
Now, he thinks about how much he said he hated it, but now he can't argue with it anymore.

Eusebio Rorales
I liked the book called "Green Eggs and Ham." I liked it because of the drawings and how it looked and the colors because the drawings looked colorful.
I thought the book was funny, and it made me laugh when I read the book called "Green Eggs and Ham."

Shay Hulin
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Horton Hears a Who." It is my favorite Dr. Seuss book because it is the first Dr. Seuss book I ever read and I love the movie.
My other favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Green Eggs and Ham." I like "Green Eggs and Ham" because it is fun to read.
I love how Dr. Seuss rhymes in all of his books!
I wish that Dr. Seuss could come back to life and write more of his hilarious children's books.
And that's all I have to say.
Hope you think my essay is wonderful.

Anthony Galvez
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Fox in Socks."
It is my favorite book because almost all of the words rhyme, like "My tongue isn't quick or slick, sir."
Also, I like the drawings of the fox and Mr. Knox.
I like that sometimes the sentences are like tongue-twisters.
I also like that Dr. Seuss makes up words sometimes.

Matthew D. Ruiz
My favorite Dr. Seuss book would probably have to be "Oh, the Places You'll Go," because it has a lot of imagination in it and funny words. Also, it has a lot of fun, made-up places and everything. Plus, I love to travel. That's why it is my favorite book Dr. Seuss wrote.

Emma McCann
For me, I think all Dr. Seuss books are great!
Every book has a different character and a whole different story, but I think "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is my favorite.
I think it's a good lesson for some people. It's a really good story, and the characters look very cool, too!
I like how the Grinch realizes that Christmas is not about presents.
That's my favorite Dr. Seuss book.

Alan Montoya
My favorite Dr. Seuss book, or should I say books - I say books because there isn't one Dr. Seuss book in the world I don't like, but since the topic is only your one favorite book, I am sad, but if I have to choose one and only one, I have to choose "Green Eggs and Ham."
I like that book so, so, so, so much, you could wake me up in my dead sleep and I will read it.
P.S. I still like all the Dr. Seuss books, so shhh! Keep it a secret.

Maddie Coyle
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!"
I think this is a great book for children and is very hilarious.
This book is about a little creature and a big creature, and how the big creature wants the little creature to leave.
The big creature gives the little creature all these good ideas on how the little creature can leave, and when the big creature is finished giving the little creature all the ways he could leave, the little creature is like "Oh, I think it is time now to leave."
I really think this should be the best children's book written by Dr. Seuss, because it is a very great book for children.

Dylan Santa Cruz
My favorite story by Dr. Seuss?
I think I might tell you some clues.
A little kid named Sam-I-Am tried to convince a big, great man. He tried to make him have a treat, green eggs and ham.
How did you know that, Sam-I-Am came from the story "Green Eggs and Ham!"

Sonia Flores
What is my favorite Dr. Seuss book? Well, I can't really choose one because they are all so wonderful, how they rhyme and are just so fun to read; but if I had to choose one, I would have to say "Green Eggs and Ham."
I think Dr. Seuss was a very smart and funny man. I love his books; I read almost all of his books.
I think I need to read only three more of his books. I always feel like taking Dr. Seuss books from everyone in my class.
I'm crazy for Dr. Seuss books!
This is it for this essay today.
Until then, goodbye.

Michael Campos
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "There's a Wocket in My Pocket," because it is funny when all of the animals are hidden throughout the house, and wherever he goes there is an animal called a wocket.
I wonder what Dr. Seuss' favorite book is.
I guess we won't know for now, unless someone goes back in time or finds his brain and does research on it, but that won't be for a long time.
But wait, I could just go on the computer and get info on him! Yay.

Robert Barajas
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish" because it goes from different fishes to animals, and each page in the book rhymes. I share a birthday with Dr. Seuss.
My birthday is also March 2, but I was born in 2001.
I also like "The Lorax" because when they first cut down one of the trees, the Lorax appears and the guy who cut the tree down didn't see any of the thunder or lightning.

Crystal Orozco
Dr. Seuss has a lot of books, and I mean a lot, but if I had to choose one book, it would be "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street."
I thought it was silly that he went through all of that trouble just to go to school.
If that were me, I wouldn't believe it! I would be surprised.
I probably couldn't believe it and I might not even be able to describe it.
I always read the book "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street," by Dr. Seuss.

Vince Quintana
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "The Cat in the Hat" because it is funny how the fish talks and a cat shows up out of nowhere.
Plus, I have the movie. My favorite part in the movie is when they baked cupcakes. I love the movie and the book.
It is too bad Dr. Seuss is dead, because I would have wanted to meet him.
He is a great author, and the new movie "The Lorax" looks cool. I heard it is very funny.
On Crazy Hat Day, we celebrate Dr. Seuss. I was wearing a hat that day.
I once ate green eggs and ham at my friend's house.
I think it is cool how Dr. Seuss makes up funny rhymes and creatures. Thanks, and have a great day!

Sandra Vega
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Horton Hears a Who."
Well, I like all of the Dr. Seuss books because Dr. Seuss made rhyming fun and it is very, very creative.
Now, let's get on to telling why I love "Horton Hears a Who."
The reason I love "Horton Hears a Whol" is because I love it when Horton tries to prove that there are little people in the tiny speck.
My other favorite book is "The Cat in the Hat." I love it because I love cats.
My favorite part is when the two kids are chasing Thing One and Thing Two around and trying to put them back in the box.
Well, thanks for listening and have a good day.

Nick Glass
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Hop on Pop."
One of the reasons I like it is because of all of the creative, made-up pictures.
The second reason is what the kids do with the animals, like ride on them or walk them.
The last reasons is Dr. Seuss' ideas.

Alysah Picarro
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "The Lorax." I read the book and also saw the movie.
I realized that the book is different from the movie, kind of. "The Lorax" is the defender of the trees and speaks for the trees.
Soon, the Once-ler starts chopping down trees and makes a factory. All of the animals leave because there's no more food, and the Lorax leaves too.
I always keep Dr. Seuss in my heart and hope they make another movie based on his books.
Maybe they might even create "The Lorax 2!"

Madison Tayan
My ultimate favorite Dr. Seuss book would be "Green Eggs and Ham." It's fun to read this book with my sisters because we can get a laugh out of it. My favorite character in the book would be Sam-I-Am. My favorite part is when they land in the water and Sam-I-Am gives his friend green eggs and ham, and he enjoys him and thanks him for the delicious green eggs and ham.
That is why "Green Eggs and Ham" is my favorite book.

Kaitlyn Weir
Dr. Seuss is the best author to me. I love how he uses his imagination to make up things like a zZck and a Barbaluka and stuff like that, but I would have to say my favorite is "The Lorax."
It is really popular, and they just made a movie inspired by it.
The book is about a Lorax which protects the truffula trees, then the Once-ler uses all the trees to make a thneed, and when the last tree is chopped the Lorax leaves.
I love the book. Dr. Seuss will always be my favorite author, and will always be in my heart!

Christian Lopez
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Green Eggs and Ham" because when I was in kindergarten, we read that book. Then we ate green eggs and ham.
At first I was scared, but the teacher said the reason why it's green is because they add food coloring, which didn't change the flavor.

Jylen Whitten
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "The Cat in the Hat." I like it because the phrases are hilarious. I especially like Thing One and Thing Two. My friend Melissa and I have the sweatshirts. (I'm Thing One.)
In the book, the cat returns to the children's house to clean his mess. It's awesome because he comes in on a car-thing and cleans everything within 20 seconds and leaves.
I also like it because the fish talks to the kids.
Imagine that! A talking fish.
One thing the cat does is get on a bouncy ball. While on it, he's holding the fish bowl with the fish in it, on top of an umbrella with one finger, on another book, on his hat a cup, his thumb a toy ship, his foot, a platter with milk, on the book another, on the cup on his hat, a cake, a rake in his hand, a fan held in his tail, and a little toy man on top of the ship, while bouncing up and down!
That's why it's my favorite book. It's filled with funniness and can brighten your day anytime. Dr. Seuss comes up with great rhyming words.

Alexa Ruelas
Dr. Seuss made very hilarious stories, some are to lead little kids to read or count. I may be in fifth grade but I still read Dr. Seuss books and those books are waiting for you to read.
I also like "Green Eggs and Ham."
In first grade, my teacher Mrs. Mazzocco brought in some green eggs and ham when we were done reading the book. I never knew they were so good.
Maybe you should try them, well only if you have green eggs and ham, which is hard to find.
I think Dr. Seuss did eat some, so I guess that's how he came up with that story but I not only like those books, no I love those books, but all of the Dr. Seuss books too.

Joshua Richard
My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Go, Dog, Go" because it is funny and they have dogs driving cars and a tree where all the dogs live, that is kind of weird but sort of funny.
"Go, Dog, Go" is a book that I read a bunch but this book is one of the coolest and most awesome books I have ever read.
This is an awesome book because I have been reading it since I was four.
This is a book that you might want to read too, and you may like it, too.
So read the book.
