COC organizes high school training

The College of the Canyons Employee Training Institute and the Santa Clarita WorkSource Center will host a day-long Fast Track Institute program orientation for recent high school graduates and others who want to start a career in the aerospace or biomedical manufacturing industries.

Candidates accepted into the program will receive 250 hours of hands-on training spread over a seven-week period from June 18 to Aug. 7.

Classes will meet 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with sessions designed to teach a variety of advanced precision assembly functions and manufacturing processes.

Topics will include shop math, blueprint reading, communication skills and manufacturing safety techniques.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will be invited to a private job fair at which they will have the opportunity to meet potential employers.

Individuals interested in the program can attend a free day-long Fast Track orientation 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road in Valencia.
