After months of discussion about a cellular tower in Stevenson Ranch, the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission approved a tower that would be farther away from homes than other sites proposed.

T-Mobile received approval to build a 45-foot-tall cellular tower on the west side of Stevenson Ranch Parkway between Huston Street and Chisom Lane on Wednesday morning. No residents spoke in opposition to the project.

The tower will be 18 inches in diameter, marble textured and earth tone in color to blend with the surrounding landscape.

A T-Mobile representative said Wednesday the tower would be "several hundred" feet away from a nearby preschool.
While residents had complaints about a proposal to locate the tower on the same property because it would be within 15 feet of some homes, the new proposed site is 139 feet away from the nearest home and set back 29 feet from Stevenson Ranch Parkway, according to the Regional Planning staff.

The first suggested location is about 180 feet northeast of the currently proposed site, according to the Regional Planning Department staff.

Some Stevenson Ranch residents had objected to previous tower placements because of concerns about property values, neighborhood aesthetics and the intrusive nature of cellular phone facilities.

The West Ranch Town Council supported the new proposed location because it was set back from the roadway and did not create a safety issue or significantly alter the appearance of the neighborhood.

T-Mobile will be able to install, operate and maintain the cell tower for 15 years.
