As expected, Valencia High graduate Max Homa and his University of California, Berkeley men’s golf team punched a ticket to the NCAA Division I National Championship.

The team finished in first place at the Regional Championship on Saturday at the Stanford University Golf Course to secure its  bid to the championship.

Cal was the No. 1 seed among the 13 teams competing in the regional, which took place over the course of three days.
Each of the top five team finishers advanced to Nationals next week.

The Golden Bears finished with a total team score of 815 (25-under) with Brandon Hagy’s three-day score of 11-under leading the way.

Homa was Cal’s third-place scorer with a total of 4-under after rounds of 71, 68, 67, which was tied for 10th place individually.

Also competing in the Stanford regional was Pepperdine junior and Hart High graduate Johnny MacArthur, who was participating unattached to a team.

He came in at 5-over and tied for 44th, but didn’t advance to the NCAA Championship.

Homa and his teammates are headed to their third straight NCAA Championship. This year, the event takes place at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades from May 29-June 3.
