I am wondering where our wonderful "June gloom" can be? I spent Memorial Day Weekend in San Francisco, and there wasn't a cloud in sight. I even got a sunburn.

My husband told me, "Only you could get a sunburn in San Francisco." We walked the Golden Gate Bridge in honor of my father-in-law, the late Ernest Robert Buttelman. He was 11 when the bridge opened on May 27, 1937 and was among the first group of children to run across the bridge on opening day. We hope to return for the bridge's 100th anniversary.

Iconic women of SCV

DaAnne Smith, executive director of Single Mothers Outreach, has announced that the organization will honor the "iconic" women of the Santa Clarita Valley at the third annual Empowering HeArts Fundraising event to be held on Nov. 3.

SMO is seeking artists to use photography, painting or sculpture to tell the stories of 12 women who have positively impacted the SCV. The iconic standard is defined as women whose unique and powerful contributions define excellence in their field, and have life-changing impact in their communities. Each artist will be paired with an honoree. All proceeds from sponsorships, tickets sales and product sales will benefit the programs and services of Single Mothers Outreach, helping the organization to continue its mission organized around the four "Pillars of Success:" Assist, Grow, Sustain and Inspire.
