Delinquent taxpayers across the county will soon receive notice that their property taxes for 2011-2012 are delinquent and taxpayers will default July 3, officials announced Thursday.

The county Treasurer and Tax Collector have begun mailing 167,487 notices of tax delinquency, Treasurer and Tax Collector Mark Saladino announced in a news release.

If residential property remains in tax default for more than five years, the property can be sold at public auction, Saladino said.

Non-residential commercial property is subject to public auction if it is in default for three or more years, according to state law.
