SBDC offers business seminar

The Santa Clarita Small Business Development Center has joined Los Angeles City College to help local businesses rake advantage of the “Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business Initiative.”

The Goldman Sachs program, specifically geared to small businesses, gives 80 hours of free intensive training to qualified businesses. Participants gain practical business knowledge and skills.

To qualify, a company must have been in business for at least two years, have revenues between $150,000 and $4 million in the most current fiscal year, and at least four employees.

The program is only available in a few areas of the country and applications are being accepted now.

The SBDC is holding an information session on the program Tuesday, June 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at their offices located on the COC Valencia campus. The free information session is at the University Center in Room 107.

Princess Cruises ships recognized

The Port of San Francisco-awarded environmental awards to two of Princess Cruises’ cruise ships, the Sea Princess and Sapphire Princess.

Introduced in 2005, the annual award recognizes cruise ships that exceed environmental regulations and industry standards to greater protect air and water quality.

The Princess Cruise ships earned the award for air-emissions reduction, advanced-wastewater management, and recycling and disposal programs during the 2011 season.

Both vessels plugged into the port’s new shoreside power system at the port, the first to be implemented in California.
